Be On the LookOut for Fish Die Offs Due to Weather
During this extended dry and very hot summer, be on the watch for increased fish die offs in ponds and tanks. The extreme heat is bad enough, but when you add cloud covered periods during anytime of day, oxygen can be drained from the water. Fish may be already competing for reduced oxygen due to algae blooms. The addition of the clouds on those "steamy hot mornings" can cause traumatic effects to pond fish life. Oxygen can be added to the water through pumps or motor boats. Introducing oxygen back into the water will reduce the damages and provide a healthier environment for your fish. To find out more keeping your pond healthy go to agrilifebookstore.org or call your County Extension Office.
